STONEWALL – Pet licences may soon be a thing of the past in Stonewall, Manitoba.
Mayor Lockie McLean tells 680 CJOB town council is looking at scrapping licenses because they’re a waste of time and money.
“Why are we spending administrative time and bylaw enforcement officer time and costs to send out notices for people?” says McLean. “If they haven’t licenced their dog or cat on time, we give them a breach of bylaw and then we have a hearing and then we have fines. What are we doing?”
McLean says the 10 or 20 dollars coming in for each license isn’t really enough to offset the administrative cost in the first place.
