WINNIPEG – A trio of Manitobans are among nine new appointees to Canada’s Senate.
Art historian Patricia Bovey, human rights activist Marilou McPhedran and internationally recognized psychiatrist Dr. Harvey Chochinov are among those named.
Chochinov tells 680 CJOB it was one of the greatest phone calls of his life.
“It felt surreal,” says Chochinov. “It’s not everyday that one lifts up the telephone to be greeted by the prime minister of Canada. It was a wonderful experience, very humbling.”
Chochinov hopes his experience in palliative care can help represent Manitoba well in the Senate.
All of the new senators are non-partisan and were appointed by Justin Trudeau.
