WINNIPEG – It’s official. Danny Smyth is Winnipeg’s new Chief of Police.
He’s the first chief to be appointed by City Hall’s police board.
Board Chair Jeff Browaty made it official this morning.
“It’s an honour for me to move the motion here today that, effective him taking his oath November 8th, appointing Danny Smyth as the new chief of Winnipeg Police Service.”
Smyth is a 30-year veteran, currently a deputy chief here in Winnipeg, and replaces Devon Clunis, who retired earlier this year.
He plans to continue much of the work Clunis started around proactive policing and will be sworn in at a special ceremony next week.
