WINNIPEG – It’s a big day for basketball in Manitoba as a local player officially signs to play for a top tier American college.
Raizel Guinto is a star point guard for the Sisler Spartans varsity girls team and will sign her letter of intent with Louisiana Tech University. She’s the first player ever from her school to play Division 1 basketball south of the border.
This is the first day recruits can sign with top American schools to play college basketball. Louisiana Tech play in Division 1 as a member of Conference USA.
Guinto is entering her grade 12 season at Sisler High School. Last year, she was the team’s second leading scorer and lead the team to a 33-1 record, along with a provincial championship.
Sisler have an astonishing record of 80-2 during her time there. She’s also been a member of Basketball Manitoba provincial teams since the age of 11.
She’s represented our province nationally for years and has been named to multiple All Canadian team’s at various events. She’s considered one of the top point guard prospects in western Canada.
Guinto and the Spartans will enter play this season as one of the top ranked teams again in the top division of the Winnipeg high school basketball league.
