Winnipeg – The Jennifer Jones rink continues to roll along at the 2017 Manitoba Scotties Women’s Curling Championship at Eric Coy Arena. The seven time provincial champs easily defeated Jennifer Briscoe of Burntwood 10-0 in just five ends to improve to 3-0.
Jones jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first end and added another 4 in end five to signal shake hands time. The only other undefeated team in the Black Group, Joelle Brown of Assiniboine Memorial, lost 9-5 to Christine MacKay of Fort Rouge.
St. Vital’s Shannon Birchard and Briane Meilleur of Fort Rouge also posted victories to join Brown at 2-1. Birchard routed Cheryl Reed of Brandon 11-1 in five ends and Meilleur staged a big rally to down Colleen Kilgallen of East St. Paul 8-6. The #4 seeds scored 3 in the 9th end and added 2 more in the 10th for the come from behind victory.
Michelle Englot of The Granite joined Jones as the only other undefeated team through just six draws. The former seven time Saskatchewan Women’s Champ knocked off Assiniboine Memorial’s Beth Peterson 7-2 in five ends in a surprisingly one sided showdown of undefeated rinks.
Play continues later today with Jones playing Kilgallen in the 4 p.m. draw and Englot meeting Tiffany McLean of Portage in the evening draw at 7:45 p.m.
