Brace yourself for a hike in your electricity bill. The Public Utilities Board has approved an increase of 2.9 percent April 1st. That will see rates rise between 50 cents and 5-dollars depending on how much power is used. The PUB has also outlined how it will deal with a series of risk reports. That includes suggestions by a whistleblower that Hydro could be facing blackouts and severe financial problems. The PUB will ask the whistleblower to make her reports public. A hearing on Hydro's long term rates will start June 1st.
